Prices for personal hygine items have just increased alot and have become very difficult to buy for a Cuban who does not have access to hard currency.
If you have access to the little hotel soaps, little bottles of shampoo, etc., take those.
Toothbrushes - supermarket's own brands and mutlipack are still better quality than most of the ones you can buy in Cuba.
Pencils, especially those with an eraser, are a treat, so are pens.

| Cubans can use just anything. But they can differ very well between rubbish and nice gifts! Clothes, Cosmetics, etc. are the most common gifts. If you want someone to r5ealyy remember you, use your fantasy... |

Good reply Pepe, we are trying to get back next week, and having made some cuban friends in march of this year i am more aware of what they need, the gifts we took over in march must have been the right gifts as they got stolen in havanna airport when we took a internal flight but at least they got to the people. we love cuba the people are wonderful and although we go and have a brillant time we are mindful of the hardships they face, i will have a word with Fidel

Great! your going to Cuba and want to help the Cuban people. The best way is to bring every day useful items that are not easily found nor available to the Cubans. This could be a long list but stick to the basic rules as small, high cost and valuable items. My suggestion is generic medicines like aspirins, vitamins or pain relief such as Tylenol. These simple items cost a fortune in Cuba and may help improve or even save a child's life.
Take a photo of the people you give the medicines to for your own memory of the good Cuban people.

| where to give gifts.. |
24th May 2010 |
| Best idea is to move out from resort and explore real Cuba,U can rent car(expensive) or take taxi..Giving gifts to people who work in resort making them even richer..they already have good salary and they will sell your gifts(of course not all)..In all places around hotels where all emploees lives they are the most rich in their community..so go out from hotels and stop beside poor houses where real poor people lives..They will appreciate everything what u will give them.. |

| Hi just got back this morning 4th visit to cuba this year we went to Trinidad for 3 nights so we had plenty of people who were very needy I took pens pencils and Vitamins this year as I had picked up a post from trip advisor asking if anyone was going to take Vitamins for a child who is ill. We also took vitamins for a cuban friend who lives in england and his family lives in trinidad. So i think vitamins and pain meds are a real need in cuba |

10th August 2010 |
We leave for Cuba in two weeks and I would like to take gifts for the hotel staff and for anyone we meet on our excursions then here we noted that price of every next piece is in increasing sequence and so . Unfortunately, will not be visiting any schools, but would still like to take things for adults and children. I need suggestions, please.
Also want to go snorkelling while there - suggestions of places to go, please.
We have been advised the best way to see Havana is with a personal driver (there are four of us) vs. taking a tour bus for the day - comments re: this welcome. |

23rd November 2010 |
My family will be visiting over christmas around Varadero.
We have asked our kids teachers to ask students to donate to a care package which we would like to donate to a school in Cuba. (books, pens, pencils, erasers, calculators, crayons, markers, pencil crayons, calendars, sporting goods etc..) We hope to bring a few large duffle bags. Any other suggestions on what students may need in Cuba?
I have not worked out the details yet, but am planning to travel to Havana to find a school to donate to. Anyone have any idea on how to decide which school to donate to? Best way to travel to Havana with 6 people and bags of supplies? |

Hi Adam, of course you can donate stuff for the school, but not neccesary have to bring to Havana, also at Varadero city has school too, so you can donate there too.
Of course, but if you want to bring the donation to Havana city , you can deliver to Old Havana schools, and the best way to come to Havana from Varadero you can check in web site: www.cubahoteltransfers.com , as you are 6 perople with bags. |
