My wife & I and three teenage kids are going to Cuba for the first time. We will be at the Costa Sur, Playa Ancon in early March. We wanted to avoid the party party kind of area and learn a little about daily life here. We always like to interact as much as possible with the people of the country who are kind enough to host us.
Long intro into a simple question... Is it possible to visit a school so my kids can meet with local kids. It would help my kids to appreciate how Cuba has achieved such a high literacy rate and give them an opportunity to engage socially with kids from their age group. (language barrier aside...)
I would appreciate any guidance or other helpful suggestions,

Yes, I think it is possible to visit any school. I am sure they will be very happy to answer any questions you may have and to take you to see the classrooms, for your kids to meet with local kids etc. Of course, you would have to try to go on the time they are not in classes (it is at about 10:00 a.m., when they normally have a break for about 15 minutes) or another option is going in the afternoon when they normally have some supplementary subjects, not the main ones like mathematics etc. I hope you understand what I mean.
Kind regards,
