baracoa is a beautiful little town nestled in the sierra mastra.
almost as beautiful as trinidad.
the bus ride from santiago is spectacular
the people there are very friendly,and most nights there are parties in the plaza.
there is a beach a few k's out of town.
a guy called choco who works out of havanatur drove us there and cooked us camerones del rio on the beach.$35 ..for the day...bargin
a trip to el yunque to watch the sunset is a must.
we stayed at the castillo,which has great views.
we booked it over the net before we left aussie.
38 dollars a night with a great breakfast.
excellent value.
we also went to visit the indian caves there.quite a hike..we where getting a bit tired on the way back...we met a farmer who took us back to his place for lunch.and gave us lots of fruit.
that was a great day.
baracoa is also know for it.s chocolate which is yummy.
a visit to the chocolate factory is a must.the factory was opened by ..so has been around for some time...
baracoa also has great markets open saturday and sunday along the malacon...lots of fruit and veg for sale..also pork and chickens.
hotel rusa is a great place to go for a drink..it is right on the malacon and is seeped in history...the hotel was built by a russian princess Magdalena Rovieskuya.former guest include .. and errol flynn..photos of these and more line the lobby walls.. |
