colin
Les and Karen 16th May 2009
Hi, my wife and i are returning to the Playa Pesquero in June for the third year running. It is a beautiful resort to stay in, June is probably one of the best times of year to go. To be honest i do not remember seeing any Spiders while we were out there, but if your wife is nervous of them i am sure the Hotel will accomodate your request for a first floor room.
Les and Karen 16th May 2009
Sorry, i didn't really answer your question. There doesn't seem to be an E Mail address to contact the Hotel directly, but i am sure your tour opperator should be able to make a request on your behalf.
colin 18th May 2009
hi les

ok, thanks for answering - i have a phone number, so i guess i will call them a couple of weeks before we go

cheers
Lorraine 3rd June 2009
Hi Colin,
We too are travelling in June to this Hotel. Please let me know how you get on when you ring them as we too would like an upper floor room for the same reason as yours!!!!!!

Thanks for replying Colin. What date are you going? have a great time.
Grace 5th June 2009
Hi I am going with my boyfriend for the first time in June. Have been getting really worried about some of the reviews of people who have returned recently. Also I have read that June is the start of the rainy season!! Beginning to panic! Do you think I have reason to?
Cubanero 5th June 2009
Grace, don't be crazy. What rainy season?

It rains, sometimes heavily, but it doesn't last long. Half hour after a rain it looks as if it hasn't rained at all. Cubans call it 'Rainy Season' becase it does rain slightly more than usual. Absolutely nothing to be worried about.

colin 5th June 2009
i'm going soon :)

grace, don't worry, just enjoy

Grace 7th June 2009
Thank you so much. You have put my mind at rest. Still worried about some of the reviews on other websites concerning the hotel though. Can anyone who has been already in the last twelve months or so help with this one. Would really appreciate it. We travel on the 17th of June. Cheers
colin 8th June 2009
grace

all the reviews i've read, look pretty good - don't worry, you can't change things now anyway, just enjoy

btw you're not grace from jersey are you?

going 16th june :)
sharon reid 8th June 2009
we were at this hotel last July and are returning again in 4 weeks as we loved so much. The reviews were the same last year and we were also apprehensive , no need this place is fantastic. We travel all over the caribbean but this is the first time we have returned to the same resort.

The staff are fantastic, the food is good, yes it is not 5 star but it is the standard of a good restaurant. Romantica is the best place to eat so book early. We also got friendly with Oscar who is in charge of the watersports and I think my husbnd left half his clothes and trainers behind. Try and take extra toiletries etc so you can leave these as gifts rather then money as these things cost alot more in cuba?

Enjoy your holiday and please do not worry you will have a fantastic time. x
Grace 10th June 2009
Thank you for all the info and no I'm not the Grace from Jersey, but I am from Manchester. I was told by the cashier in the Nationwide that I will be unable to use my debit card because it was Visa and Visa is American. Anybody know anything about this? Thanks again
colin 11th June 2009
hi grace

sorry, my mistake

my understanding is american based cards are frowned upon, but hopefully somebody will have a definitive answer

all the best
Dougie 18th June 2009
Grace, as everyone else has said, don't worry about this place it is really brilliant! I was there for a fortnight last May and will be going back in September this year as it is easily the best holiday I've ever had!

The money thing is DON'T bring anything associated with the USA! I reccomend traveller's cheques, either Sterling or Euros, but NOT Dollars!

For a variety of reasons the tax on the Dollar works out at about 18% to discourage people using them in Cuba! As far as I know it's all political and as long as you know not to bring Dollars you'll be alright!

I honestly can't think of anything that wasn't excellent at the Playa Pesquero as the surroundings, staff, food and amenities were all of a very high standard and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire holiday!

So don't panic - You're going on holiday - Ha,Ha!
Joanne Conlin 19th June 2009
Hi

Hope you all enjoy your holiday. Please let me know how you all get on and whats the place like has i am going in November for 2 wks on our honeymoon and would love to hear whats its like has some of the reviews have been really mixed and were hoping to get a upgrade when we get there fingers crossed
Pauline, Grace's mum 26th June 2009
Hi everyone

My daughter Grace, who asked a few questions on here and her boyfriend Ben flew out on the 19 June. I have spoken to her a few times and she said that she has eaten very little as the food is covered in flies! They have eaten in a couple of the restaurants and the food there is fine, but the rest isn't very pleasant. A couple of people they have met have been ill with food poisoning and her fella was ill all day yesterday with the same symptoms. Not what you would expect. Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you
leticia 26th June 2009
Hi all, the phone for the hotel is 53-24-433530.
Dougie 26th June 2009
Hiya Pauline,

As I said in my previous post I was at the Playa Pesquero for a fortnight last May and never experienced anything but excellence . . . including the standards of hygine in all the eating areas and the food being well prepared, properly cooked and nicely presented.

On one occaision however I did see a couple of kids being left by their parents at the salad bar and picking at the food with their bare hands. Straightaway the staff were over removing the food that had been touched and replacing it with fresh stuff.

The staff also had a friendly word with all concerned on the finer points of personal hygine in a communual dining area and the importance of using the utensils supplied for serving food!

I honestly don't know, or didn't hear of anyone, during my stay who had food poisoning or anything like it - just the odd person with a hangover and/or an upset stomach through over indulging.

Lets hope Grace and Ben's experience is a one off and they enjoy the rest of their holiday. I'm religiously counting down the days (88 and an early breakfast) and can't wait until I get back there in September.

Pauline, Grace's mum 1st July 2009
Hiya Dougie

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to reply and in so much detail. Grace and Ben are on their flight back as we speak so no doubt I will hear all tomorrow! Will let you know the final verdict. I do know from speaking to her on the telephone that they have had some wonderful experiences and met lovely people, two of who got married while they were there. Thanks again
colin 3rd July 2009
back

had a great time, the beach and resort are fantastic, but:

1 - bathroom needed revamping. Room was fine, if a little dated by modern standards
2 - Agree with Grace's mum - flies every where in the buffet, but you have to eat. We made sure we took any cold food from the bottom of the plate and hot food was piping hot. The cooks making fresh fish were good. Had food poisoning too, as did my wife (her's worse than mine)
3 - no-see-ums! citronella mixed with aftersun worked well for the mozzies, but the no-see-ums seemed to like the taste. Use a good quality insect repellent with lots of DEET in it!
4 - mini-bar service and replacement soap was sporadic, but cleaning and bar service was fairly good
5 - is it 5 star? not by modern standards, i would say 4* at most, but then again, star ratings vary across the world, so who is to say if it is 5 or not?

Would i go back?

yes, but having said that, there are a lot of other places still to see in the world

just my humble opinion
Pauline, Grace's mum 3rd July 2009
Hi Dougie

Grace and Ben returned yesterday and they loved it, loved it, LOVED IT!! Thank you for answering all my queries, and in such detail. Hope you have a wonderful time which I am sure you will. Thanks again
Dougie 7th July 2009
Pauline,

I'm happy to have been of help and glad to hear that Grace and Ben enjoyed themselves.

I've only another 76 days and an early breakfast to go and I'll be there . . . . YeeeHaaa!

Esther 30th July 2009
Hi, normally is not mosquitoes in this hotel. But you can bring or buy any lotion for this.
At the hotel has a normal shop, where you can buy a suncream and also a pharmacy where you can buy a lotion for mosquitoes, just in case.

Thank you very much for the hotel's email address, I have been looking for it the last couple of days.

My boyfriend and myself were there twice last year, we simply love the hotel facilities and the great friendly staff who tend to all our needs and yes the food is actually very good for Cuba even with their many restrictions.

Last year we won the hotels Halloween contest which was a week for two at the hotel.

We are planning to return at the beginning of October, this time for 2 weeks. We are taking a one week package and extending our departure by a week to take advantage of the GREAT prize we won.
Ginette 30th September 2009

Change of subject..... but can anyone explain the dress code for the restaurants? Do men have to be wearing full lengh trousers or can they wear smart/tailored shorts? I'm travelling with my husband and 3 children, 2 of which are teenage boys, and need to be sure that I have the correct clothes with us!!
Colin 26th March 2010
With regards to the dress code, from my experience two yrs ago was full length pants. Not sure about jeans as I did not see those at dinners but linen pants, which I have, are fine. Tailored knee length shorts DOES not work for some of the themed restaurants.

The resort is wonderful, we are returning in the next month after having a great experience two yrs ago. Cannot wait!

It is a great resort, have a nice trip!

We are returning to the Hotel Playa Pesquero on 8th June 2010, for the 4th time. We are bringing with us 2 special friends. If possible could we have our appartments near the beach again. We stayed at the Guama and the Songa la Maya. This also contributed making our holiday very special. Look forward to seeing you all very soon. Karen and Les Baker from Sussex England.

Hi, we are thinking of going to this hotel in June next year but are concerned about the weather.

Is it very rainy during June, and if so how heavy is the rainfall?
luiza 12th July 2010
Hi Maria, normally the June month has to be the rain's month, but this year for example was rain a few days and the rest was very hot and with sunshine.

Johnny Jones 15th September 2010
Hi all,

Going to Playa Pesquero in October for a wedding and would like to know if there is a dress code for the restaurants. I have heard stories of needing full length pants for men but this seems like a couple of years ago so not sure if still stands, can anyone that has been recently shed some light on this please?

Thanks
David 20th September 2010
Johnny, Was told by friends who enjoyed 2 weeks at Pesquero that long slacks and collard shirts (i.e. no 'T' shirts) were worn by men for the evening meals and most women wore light skirts and blouses or dresses. As a result of our freinds recommendation, my wife and I have now booked for late Nov/early Dec. We weren't able to book a 2 centre holiday (wanted to spend a couple of days in Havana) but understand that we can go on a 2 or 3 day trip from Pesquero to Havana. Does anyone have any information on this please?
Regards,
David
KAREN 1st December 2010
Hi David
Have been to Playa Pesquero 4 times and we are returning in April. We finally went to Havana last year when we were there in May, We. booked a 2 night stay with our rep.
The up side - Havana is fab, like a walk into the 50's in many ways, just not like anywhere else. Floriditos is a must, wandering the street is very atmospheric, we had a great time and I am glad we did it.
Negatives were that this was not the best way to do things, booking through our rep was an expensive way of doing it and although flying on a small plane was quite exciting the ridiculously strict performance at the airport and the time we were hanging around for an internal flight was ridiculous, our guide was not the best either. I would not do this from PP again. If you cannot get a twin centre I would postpone your Havana visit to another time.
Harry 3rd January 2011
Is there any shade by the beach (trees)?
Belinda 7th January 2011
Hi Harry, there is plenty of vegation at the beach area.
