I always get nervous when my post starts out with "This may seem a stupid question but"..
Why don't I see any recipes that have any amount of spice?
Am I looking at the wrong web pages or is hot food not a common to Cuban cooking? I always assumed that Cuban food would be spicy much like other areas in the Caribean/Central Americas. Heck, there's even a pepper called a Habanero, that sounds Cuban to me!

From one side I am not "a specialist" on this matter of cooking and from the other side my english is not perfect so maybe I did not understand you very well but I think that in general we cubans do not use such a big amount of spice but only garlik, onion, chili, cumin, coriander etc. So in my opinion you are right, hot food is not a common to Cuban cooking. And you are also right, it is very interesting that there is a pepper called Habanero. I would really like to know about the origin of that name. It seems it has some relation to the name of the cuban city or at least sounds the same but I think it would have been much more correct calling it "mexican", donīt you agree?

Spicy food is rare in Cuba ..
Some tourist will bring their own spices when they go .. I always bring a small container of pepper .. It seems to be hard to find in some resturants ..
As Victor listed thats about all the spices they use .. |
