I have jsut heard about Hurricane Gustav heading towards Cuba. Can anyone shed any light on this - has anyone been on holiday and witnessed a hurricane? I am worried as my son is there right now.
Thank you |

Hi Bookworm. Right now Cuba is getting lots of rain, but it really depends on where your son is. The south of Cuba which was expected to be hit has been passed by. In any case the tourists were all evacuated to a safer city and were safeguarded until it was safe to return. Cuba will take care of tourists before its own peoples, so not to worry. If he is not at a resort and in a city, even better as the concrete buildings are solid as a rock!
Best wishes and I hope you hear from your son soon. |

| No need to worry they look after touyrists very well.....without them they have nothing....so dont worry. |

I was in Cuba when hurrican Ivan was forecasted and was deeply impressed by how well the alert system works. The Cubans know well what to do and - within their means - prepare to weather the storm.
Tourists will receive help from officials and hotel staff, if your son is travelling independently he will equally be helped and looked after by the local community.
I hope my lines re-assure you somewhat.
A word of caution is that communication during and after a hurrican is difficult and it may take another day or two before you hear from your son. |
