Hi anyone!
We are visiting Varadero from sept 8th for 2 weeks.
Can anyone give us an update on the weather situation?
Getting pretty worried about the hurricanes we keep hearing about.
Concerned it will spoil are first holiday in the carribean!!
Many thanks |

| Looks bad for Pinar del Rio and Havana. Hopefully the Cubans will take care of you. Best of luck. |

Hi Minty,
My sister flew out to varadero on Thursday (27/8) and telephoned on Friday to say they had rain and high winds. I suspect that was the beginning of the hurricane hitting as i have just looked on various websites and it seems that cuba has been hit quite badly. The west of the island appears to be in the 'eye' of the hurricane. The last report was at 10.00 p.m. (UK time). I am extremely worried for the the safety of my sister, her hubby and two friends who are with them. |

Minty,
September is hurrican season, however this one has passed and I keep my fingers crossed that the next one will not come for some time yet.
Do not worry too much, you will be safe in a hotel, looked after by staff, fed and catered for. Your roof will be fixed and is unlikely to blow away. The hotels in Varadero should be a pretty safe place to be.
The Cubans have a superbly functioning alert system and know exactly what to do when a hurrican approaches.
The hurricans I followed over the last years tended to go over the west side of Cuba - Varadero is on the east. You may get some rain and high winds. Take it in your stride. |
