| yes you can take your phone....& laptop but you have to pay for the laptop about $700?that is what i ben told...buy emigration in cuba...:( |

Pete,
you can take your phone (check whether it will be working, I understand that you can do SMS but not necessarily make calls) and laptop. The laptop must be for your personal use and you must export it again - that way no custom's duty applies. Find further details on the Cuban Custom's website.
Do consider though if you will really need it / will use it before taking it. You can buy access to computers and the internet in hotels and at many of the Cuban phone company offices - good enough to access your e-mail and read the papers.
I tend to travel independently and do not know if the hotels generally provide the option to connect your own laptop, check it before you go.

| you can take laptops and iphone with no probs in cuba, cuba oeprats they cellular network on the 9100 band so you will need a tri-band mobile, the iphone it is a quad-band device so you'll have no probs, previously it used to be issues with people bringin laptops since many of these have dvd playes, but it doesnt matter any more since all restrictions on importing dvd has being suspended since a while now, i have found plenty of interesting info about this subject at http://www.thecubaexperience.co.uk/articles.asp?id=8 |

I would never bring my laptop or cell phone to Cuba. Its a huge mistake unless you have urgent crisis. Your world will not collapse while on vacation but you could have a terrible holiday if something happened to your computer. It could be damaged or stolen or "just mysteriously disappear" as has happened to countless innocent tourist. If you really feel an urgent need to connect then pay your 6CUC and use the computer in the hotel.
Its a lot cheaper and safer than paying $2.50 CUC per minute to call home. |
